01
step ONE

Sign-up for our toolkit

Apply for our Online Curriculum and Entrepreneurship Toolkit

For current or future Broward College students who know they want to be their own boss one day but need help to grow an idea into a viable business or social venture, we’d recommend starting with our Online Curriculum and Entrepreneurship Toolkit - which you can take at your own pace.

Complete our toolkit in 3 phases

Getting started: Who am I & why am i here

Discover your purpose in life and how your idea may or may not fit in to that vision. Validate your idea and test market opportunity.

Finding Clients, donors & users before launch

Discover how to de-risk your business model. Discuss social modeling and begin to engage in rapid prototyping for accelerating your product and finding market fit.

Preparing for success & launch

Discover further how to de-risk your ideas, create fans, develop sound financial models, and de-risk them. Prepare to pitch for seed money from the JDA Student Venture fund.

02
step two

Develop your idea in our idea lab

Enjoy the benefits of our Idea lab to help grow your idea

Here's where you can engage with a faculty or staff coach in the ideation process. The Idea Lab is a safe place to practice moving from a consumer to value creator, from idea to market. The Idea Lab works hand-in-hand with the Toolkit by offering mentorship, coaching, support and events.

Idea lab support

Personal coaching
sessions

Students can be paired with trained faculty and the “Venture Mentors” - a group of external, successful business owners - for just informal coaching on their ideas or for formal instruction in theories of entrepreneurship, financial or market modeling.

Pitch &
Competition Nights

Here students can practice the art of public speaking and selling their idea. It's an opportunity to meet up, connect with other students and local area entrepreneurs. We know that so much of the success of startups and businesses depends on forming meaningful and trustworthy relationships. These sessions will provide the opportunity and guiding framework for doing so.

Speaker series & venture
mentorship

Business or social venturing can be difficult. The aim of the lecture series, then, is not only to help students understand that entrepreneurs often share the same challenging and emotional experiences but also to engage in meaningful conversations around human and civic virtue – i.e., to understand their place and purpose as potential business owner in a free society.

workshops

Be on the lookout for regular on-campus workshops aimed at teaching students how to identify problems that need fixing, opportunities that need cultivating, or needs that need to be met. Workshops aim at demystifying the practice of entrepreneurship and help students apply basic business concepts to real-world problems.

networking

Through our workshops, pitch and competition nights, and speaker series, let BCEx provide you the tools to network well. Networking and meeting other like-minded entrepreneurs matters for capital connectivity - that is, the ability for information and resources to flow through a local and engaged network of both business and potential business owners.

03
step three

pitch for funding

J. David Armstrong, Jr. student Venture Fund

If you’ve completed all three phases of the Toolkit and would like to seek funding for your business, Broward College students are eligible to pitch for venture funding from the J. David Armstrong, Jr. Venture Fund - just like you'd see on ABC's Shark Tank!

Funding Criteria for Students

  • Applicants must have completed or be currently enrolled in a Broward College degree or program, and/or engaged in BCEx’s entreprenuership toolkit program, or enrolled in CareerSource Broward’s Start Up Now program.
  • Concepts must be proven, minimally viable or ready for commercial development.
  • Concepts must have sustainable points of diferentiation.
  • Applicants must identify customer archetypes and a compelling value proposition.
  • Applicants must have background and skills required for success.
04
step four
